Level 5 NVQ Appointed Person is a competency-based Qualification and this will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as lifting operations and developing and maintaining good working relationships. Learners can specialize in using cranes, lifting equipment, plant, or machinery.

Is this NVQ Accredited?

This Qualification is supported by CSCS, CPCS and accredited by either SQA or ProQual.

CSCS provides a registration card scheme acknowledged by industry for those involved in construction. The scheme recognizes skills, knowledge and understanding, competence, and qualifications.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal entry requirements to take this qualification. This qualification can be undertaken without any previous training or qualifications in this subject area. However, learners must have the potential and opportunity to gain this qualification successfully.

Progression

On completion of this qualification, you will have obtained the skills, knowledge, and understanding, and demonstrated competence. Learners may progress Planning Lifts at level 5 can lead to employment within the construction industry and provide invaluable practical experience to learners who aspire to the more technical professions within the construction Industry.

Qualification Structure

To gain the qualification, learners must achieve mandatory core units.

Mandatory Core Units: Learners must achieve 6 units.

  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace.
  • Planning and Establishing Health, Safety, Welfare and Environmental Systems for Lifting Operations in the Workplace.
  • Planning Work Activities and Resources to Meet Work Requirements in the Workplace.
  • Evaluating and Selecting Work Methods to Meet Projector Operational Requirements in the Workplace.
  • Planning the Preparation of the Site for the Project operation in the Workplace
  • Identifying, Allocating, and Planning the Deployment and Use of Plant, Equipment, or Machinery in the Workplace.

Learners must achieve one of the following :

  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Access Equipment)

  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Knuckle-Boom Cranes)
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Lorry Loaders)
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Masted Forklifts)
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Mobile Cranes)
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Non-Mechanised Lifting Equipment)
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Overhead Cranes)
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Pedestal Cranes)
  • Planning Lifting Activities Using Cranes and/or lifting equipment in the Workplace (Piling Rigs)

Once you are enrolled for this Qualification, you will be assigned an assessor. The assessor will arrange an induction visit with you to go through the evidence requirement. The Assessor will arrange an observation with you on-site and can use a range of methods during the assessment, such as Professional discussion, knowledge questions written by candidate or professional discussion, and witness testimonials.
